For over a decade, Oak Grove Moravian Church has worked with Ibraham Elementary School to help meet the students’ and staff’s needs. David Berrier, the church’s acolyte, said, “Oak Grove needs to be a part of this school that makes a difference and makes this a better community for everyone.”
This past year, the church provided some of the shirts for Ibraham’s Community Teams program. Started by the school’s principal, N-Kenga Reich, and inspired by the True Colors personality profiling system, the program places students into four teams:
- Pragmatic planners
- Sociable peacemakers
- Innovative investigators
- Aspirational risk-takers

Each team has a color, and students receive a shirt that matches their team color. To learn more about the program (and Oak Grove’s impact on the school), read Jake Browning’s article here; Jake is a communications specialist for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools.
In August Oak Grove received a $2,300 grant from MMFA’s Clothing Fund to help them achieve their goal to purchase all the students’ shirts this school year. This way, Pastor Berrier explained, the money spent on the program will be used in other areas of need for the school.
It was MMFA’s pleasure to be present as Oak Grove gave Ibraham a check and school supplies they and Pisgah United Methodist Church had collected. The school’s open house was that evening, so there was a lot going on, but Principal Reich took the time to share her gratitude with the members from Oak Grove who were there.
She spoke about how much the church’s ongoing support means to students and staff alike, especially as the school does not have a PTA and funding is cut. “This is such a blessing,” she told us.
Every gift to our Clothing Fund is a blessing for someone. Thank you to all who generously support MMFA’s grantmaking program, and to Oak Grove Moravian Church for making a difference in the lives of Ibraham Elementary.
