Giving Tuesday is a national moment when many charities make a major push for financial support. Because the Moravian Day of Giving is our primary annual giving event, we keep our Giving Tuesday outreach simple. Still, this day marks the beginning of year-end giving, one of the most important times of the year for charitable support.
Year-End Giving Matters
Fidelity Charitable reports that nearly one-third of all charitable giving happens in December. It may be human nature to wait until the end of the year, but Moravians know that generosity is a daily calling. As you consider the ways you support your church and the ministries you love, remember that there are many tools beyond cash that can strengthen your impact and provide meaningful tax advantages.
Below are a few options to consider.
Transfers of Stock and Appreciated Securities
Giving appreciated securities is one of the most tax-wise ways to support ministry.
- You may receive immediate income tax savings.
- You avoid capital gains tax on donated assets.
- You may qualify for a charitable deduction.

Direct Gifts from an IRA (Qualified Charitable Distributions)
If you are 70½ or older and have a traditional IRA, you can make a direct tax-free gift to your church or favorite Moravian ministry.
- You avoid recognizing the income.
- If you are 73 or older, your gift counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution.
- You may give up to $105,000 annually.

Your Donor-Advised Fund can be a powerful tool during the holidays.
